Is HCG Injection safe during pregnancy?

Hi, I am 34 years old and I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have faced 2 miscarriages earlier. My gynecologist has suggested HCG 500 injections. She will be giving 8 injections ( 1 every week). I googled about the side effects of injection and found many posts that says HCG injections are not recommended during pregnancy. It might also cause birth defects. I am confused. Appriciate if someone can guide me as it is really tough phase for me.
